Over the past five years, we have trained more than 650 teachers, law enforcement, and other professionals working with children to deliver chess instruction in school, after school and community programs in Broward County, Florida and in Fresno County, California, as well as for Detroit Public Schools.
While most of the instruction has been conducted by FM Sunil Weeramantry, a special thanks goes to award-winning chess columnist and teacher, NM Bill Cornwall who taught alongside Sunil for many of the early workshops in Broward County.
In addition to teachers and others who have taken the complete workshop, we have offered an abbreviated version of Workshop 1 to summer camp counsellors so they are able to assist our NSCF teachers in introducing chess to large numbers of students during summer camps. NSCF Senior Instructor Robert McKenzie is shown delivering the 2019 training to camp counselors from the City of Sunrise Leisure Services Department.
The National Scholastic Chess Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Donations are tax-deductible. Relevant IRS information is available on request.
