Since the very beginning, providing our students with opportunities to test their knowledge has been a key component of our programming. Low-cost tournaments are organized across Westchester County, NY and Greenwich, CT with sections organized by grade and ability level. The tournaments are then organized into a year-long Grand Prix. Students who play multiple events earn additional recognition for their persistence over time. In addition, the NSCF organizes tournaments at Hunter College Campus Schools in Manhattan, the Westchester County Scholastic Chess Championship and the Greenwich City Scholastic Chess Championship. Many players from these events go on to compete at state, national, and even international events.
The Hudson in beautiful Inwood Park has provided an awesome environment for chess competition. In an effort to give our players a chance to compete in person in the latter part of 2020, we had two tournaments open to all scholastic players. and a small open play/chess class for area students. Here are just a few photo highlights.
The National Scholastic Chess Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Donations are tax-deductible. Relevant IRS information is available on request.
